The U.S.S. South Dakota was the most decorated battleship of World War II. It fought in every major naval battle in the Pacific from 1942-1945. The memorial is open daily May 1st through September 30th, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
Richard F. Pettigrew, South Dakota's first full-term U.S. senator, purchased this 1889 Queen Anne home in 1911 and arranged for the building to be donated to the city upon his death in 1926. A seasoned traveler, Pettigrew collected artifacts from all over the world, and many of these items are now on display.
